Do you like to keep your garden in top condition? Then, of course, adequate irrigation of trees and plants is important. And that, especially in summer, involves quite a day's work. As a solution, you can choose to install garden irrigation. How do you install this yourself and what choices should you consider if you choose to install garden irrigation yourself? In this article we would like to give you a hand with insights, tips and a step-by-step plan.

How to install garden watering yourself?

So you follow a number of steps that we already briefly outline below and then specify further. Steps to install your own garden watering:

  1. Map the areas to be sprayed
  2. Choose the desired water source
  3. Determine what sprinkling is desired where
  4. Get the sprinkler systems in place
  5. Ensure proper installation

Mapping garden irrigation zones 2.

It is best to start by making a survey in which you map out your trees, plants and flowers, so that you can use this as a basis for determining which garden watering is desired where. You can do this using a design tool on the computer, or, of course, you can get started with a large sheet of paper.

Choosing the water source for garden watering 2.

In addition, you should also think about the type of water you prefer for the home landscaping. Groundwater is a good choice because you can use it for free. The same goes for rainwater, but the disadvantage of this is that you have to collect it in a reservoir, it must be sufficiently available.

Sometimes groundwater contains a lot of iron or sulfur. In that case, tap water is a better choice. In addition, this is often used for small gardens because relatively little water needs to be used. A personal choice you can make based on many factors, such as sustainability, cost and water quality.

Deciding which garden watering is desired where 3.

Now comes an important step. Based on the previously drawn map, you can decide which trees, plants and flowers need which watering. Here again, you make choices in terms of type of irrigation system. Think drip irrigation or sector sprinklers.

You choose between overhead and underground irrigation, also considering to what extent you want to automate the system. And to what extent certain costs are important. You can probably imagine that automated garden watering systems with pumps are pricier than installing individual sprinklers and controlling them manually.

Keep in mind that no dry areas are left behind, and that all parts to be watered are covered. On the other hand, avoid unnecessary watering as much as possible (think driveway and paving). If you don't know much yourself about properly watering your plants, seeking professional advice is a good idea.

Get garden irrigation systems in place 4.

Once decided what it should look like? Then get all the necessary parts. You can purchase these through your local hardware store, online or at a specialized garden center. It's smart to pay attention to warranty, because sometimes cheap can be expensive. Replacing bad systems on short notice often costs more crumbs than opting for quality right away.

5. Garden watering yourself with proper installation

Now that you have everything in place and know what needs to go where, it's time to get the installation going. Read the instruction manuals for the respective systems, as each type of garden sprinkler system requires a different type of installation. You can also view tutorials on the web or ask someone with experience for help. Good luck!
